I am writing about the final bit of our Thailand trip the last 2 weeks. We decided to combine them because unfortunately we had 11 days of the worst rain i have ever seen and it was continuous so couldn't do too much.
The Rain started as we arrived in Koh Phangan, We eventually found a nice Villa down by sunset beach. Luckily most of the restaurants showed films so in the evening we could have a nice dinner and watch a couple of films for free. We decided not to let the rain ruin the island so on the second day we hired a moped to explore a bit further. The island itself has some great views with some hugely steep hills and lovely beaches even in the pouring rain! All though we got absolutely soaked we still had a good day driving all the way up to Ban Chalok, the most northern bay on the island.
We moved on to the next island Koh Samui, unfortunately the weather got even worse while we were here. Luckily there was an Australian bar/restaurant right nextdoor to our hotel and plenty of shops (mainly shoe shops) for Dani to peruse along the main road. We had one last good day, where the rain stopped long enough for Dani to burn and take a nice warm stroll along the beach. We left Koh Samui after only a couple of nights and turned out to be a good move as the island started flooding and as we reached the local port some of the villages we had gone through had 3 inches of water already. We later heard of fatal mudslides!
We caught a bus to Phuket and had been told it would take about 6 hours to get there, what we weren't told was that there would be an extra 4 hours of sitting around waiting and being moved around different places to eat and for the local people to sell us stuff (very sneaky!!) We foiund a very nice hotel and got a huge room which came in handy for drying clothes! The first 4 days in Phuket rained as hard as ever so we checked out all the local shops and restaurants. Then on the 5th day the rain stopped, still cloudy and miserable looking but no rain hooorrraaah!! We took the oportunity to get another moped out and travel up the coast and see some of the other towns, beaches and views, stopping at an elephant sanctuary by accident when we ran out of fuel. By this point we had checked the weather forecast for the last week and it was going to be bad so we looked online a found the only place not raining was Perth, Australia so we changed all our flights and brought them forward a week a re-directed to the sun! We had 2 days left in Thailand now and we got lucky and had fantastic weather. The rain was gone, the sky's were Blue and it was about 30 degrees finally! We spent both days at the beach relaxing and enjoying the sun. I also got to go and watch one of the Thai boxing shows that are on every night which was great fun.
