As soon as we arrived in Kununurra we headed to the market and fortunately the lady had my size and I am now the proud owner of a pair of Buffalo sandles. We also stopped at a mechanic to get their opinion on our camper. They pretty much said we should head to Broome, even along the Gibb River Road, and get the brakes fixed there. After talking to Pioneer, the manufacturer of the trailer, they also said pretty much the same thing. So that is what we will do. ...

After leaving Warmun we continued along the Great Northern Highway back towards Kununurra. We had made a booking in town from Saturday, so we spent Friday night at the Cockburn Rest Area, 45km east Kununurra. This was actually quite a nice spot. Someone had left firewood, so David cranked up the fire while I cooked dinner and we sat in front of the fire listening to Geelong versus Hawthorn on the radio. On the way down from Kununurra we stopped at the Warmun/Turkey Creek roadhouse for a toilet stop and came out with a big box of hot chips. Mmmmm hot chips. From the roadhouse it was only 50kms to the turnoff into the Purnululu (Bungle Bungle) National Park. And then only 53km from there. These 53km, we had been warned, took us an hour and a half. We spent our last night in Kununurra watching a bit of the Tour de France mountain stage. David felt after last night that Cadel Evans is looking good for a win. We upped and left for the Bungle Bungle early this morning. Kylie

After stopping at quarantine on the border (no fruit, vegies, honey etc can come into WA from NT) we arrived in Kununurra. A small town with a population of about 6,000, it is quite a nice area. We went to the tourist information centre first and stocked up on brochures. There's quite a bit to do in the area. We also grabbed a list of caravan parks in town and finding accommodation proved a hard task. Most parks are booked out - filled with grey nomads!! ...
