Melbourne, Victoria
Right so our first stop was Melbourne. We decided to spend 5/6days here and we managed to fit A LOT into those few days.
For the first couple of days we did our own thing and toured the city of Melbourne for ourselves visiting the huge Victoria Market which literally sells everything you could want! We also went to all the main attractions including the 1st and 2nd World War memorials, The Olympic and cricket stadiums and Federation Square which is the heart of the centre and is home to St Pauls Cathedral which is stunning. We lit a candle for all our family and friends and took some gorgeous pictures. Travelling around the centre was so easy- trams take you everywhere but its weird having to remember to look out for trams when crossing the roads as they dont stop for pedestrians, you stop for them!
The next few days we spent on two organised group tours where we visited the Great Ocean Road. This journey was long- we spent almost 15 hours travelling round and taking pictures of stunning rock formations, beaches and rainforests and we saw wild parrots, kangaroos and Koalas. It was a very tiring day but was definitly worth it and we met a few interesting people on the way. Talking of interesting people, our nights in the hostels have been ok so far. We have met a lot of Irish men our here to work and a fair few backpackers like ourselves from all over but not many English people as of yet.
The second day tour was my favourite so far. We visited Philip Island which is home to the worlds smallest penguins. We saw them upclose at ngiht as we watched them coming back from te sea to their burrows to feed their chicks. On this tour we also went to a koala park and had our picture taken with a gorgeous Koala as well as getting to feed some Kangaroos. I was mostly excited about seeing the baby Joey in its mums pouch. So cute!!!
Our last day/night in Melbourne was on Dans birthday and we managed to get a great deal for a night in one of Mlebournes best hotels in the pente house suite. Was pretty immense as we had such an amazing few of the city with huge floor to ceiling glass windows. The night there made a refreshing change to staying in bunkbeds in hostels. We spent the day at ST Kilda beach which is also gorgeous. We both got a little sunburnt which has luckily turned to tan now but all in all the day was amazing.
Melbourne: 100% worth the trip and we really enjoyed ourselves! Next stop Canberra... we havent heard great things but are only there for 1/2 days so will make the most of what it has to offer. 9.5 hour coach journey to get us there which we are not looking forward to. Bring on Sydney!!!!
