Off to Laos we go! we could see Laos from our room over the river. (Thialand and Laos are seperated by a huge chocolate coloured river called The Mekong River) we had already been told that the main boarder crossing that had always been used by tourists was closed. It turns out that there is a brand spanking new crossing about 10k away. So soon enough the lovely little boarder town of Chiang Khong which is littered with guest houses and cute cafes and food stop...

So after our two night stay in Chiang Rai we caught the bus up to Chiang Khong which is the town on the boarder crossing into Loas. The bus was a little more rustic than the one we had before, but it was only 2 and a half hours and it goes through some stunning countryside so makes for a nice trip, and the fact that there were millions of pot holes near on the whole way meant we had to go slower and so less of a death ride and more of a tourist bus ride. Yet...

Chiang Rai was our next stop, it took 3 and a half hours by bus from Chian Mai. It was like being on a rolla coster for the first hour or so, getting over the mountins on a new but very windey road with a bus driver that thought he was in a rally car! By the time we reached Chiang Rai it was absolutely pelting it down, i tell you when it rains it pours out here!
