I had the best of intentions to write a proper entry for this past weekend when we rented a Ford Fiesta and drove around... but it's already Wednesday and it seems so long ago so this will just be the glue to help make the photo album make sense.
So:
Saturday morning we picked up our car and tried to get out of Edinburgh as quickly and efficiently as possible... and failed. Eventually we made it on the right motorway, then took a turn-off to see the Falkirk Wheel. For an off the cuff decision, it was one of the highlights for me.
Then we continued on, North-West, till we got to Oban, which is on the coast. It's known as the gateway to the Hebrides, but we didn't have time to get to the islands. We spent a lovely late afternoon-evening walking around town and had a fish supper (aka fish n chips), then stayed at a nice B&B.
On Sunday, we drove north, past Ben Nevis, then up along Loch Ness to Inverness. After a walk around town, we headed back south-east, through Perth and over the Forth Road bridge... and we were home again. Ta-da.
It was a full two days, and we timed it well with a strike pushing the petrol price up 5p a litre.
It's off to Paris in a fortnight, and I promise one of us will write a fuller summary!
