Machu Picchu was just amazing. We were so pleased to arrive after our trek. It was better than we imagined with staircases and rooms like a labyrinth. It started off misty in the early morning but it cleared and was so sunny and bright. Did some walking up to an Inca bridge and to a viewpoint called the Sungate. Arrived in this village below Machu Picchu in desperate need of a shower. But when we tried the shower, 3 drips of cold water came out! Really fed up. So we walked (really fed up of walking too by now) up to the edge of the village to the hot springs. There was natural hot baths right next to a waterfall and it was brilliant. Instantly felt happy again.

I have miracously recovered after a good night´s sleep. So the blog should be more interesting today. 2 people from our group have had to cancel the trek due to altitude sickness so it wasn´t just me being a girl. We had a tour of the Sacred Valley with our group today. We have a guide called Wilbert who knows all about the Incas. (At least we hope he does.) Have explored ruins and done a bit of walking. Drunk a lot of coca tea which is a local remedy...

Spent today in Cusco acclimatizing to the altitude. Had to get up at 2.45am to catch the plane. Jenny was feeling very sick and had to rest in the hotel room all afternoon. On the plus side I am fine. Cusco is a really beautiful place and we had some really good food although Jenny couldn´t really eat.

We're now at a hotel in Miraflores in Lima and have met up with our group for the trek. The hotel is great - we have 2 bedrooms and bathroom to ourselves. And 2 TVs. We have to get up at 2.45am tomorrow to fly to Cusco where we have to relax (this won´t be difficult for us) and get used to the altitude. Our trek sounds really good as we get to swim in hot springs and see Machu Picchu at sun rise.
