Next stop on our Fiji tour took us to the capital city, Suva. We had arranged our second couchsurfing experience here and at the bus stop we meet Richard Teng. Richard from Singapore, works in Suva as the head of marketing for an international private school that teaches business and fashion design. Richards job involves meeting with potential new students in Fiji to answer their questions and sorts out visa problems.
Richard took us back to his place, well actually he lives in a hotel. So we were pampered for the next four days with fresh towels, fresh sheets and a daily cleaner. Brilliant.
It was a Friday and the big night out in Fiji is the Friday night so Richard took us out on the town. The Fiji bitter here is very tasty and their slogan is "the sportmans beer" drink more beer and play better sport, hahaha Fiji style.
The next day we explored the town and learnt about some Fijian cannibalistic feats. The ultimate revenge on your enemy in Fiji was to sit down and eat him. Men performed the cibi (death dance) and women the dele - a dance in which they sexually humiliated corpses. Crikey! Captives were often forced to watch their own body parts being eaten or forced to eat some themselves. Ouch! Cannibalism took place for about 2500 years in Fiji and (thankfully) stopped in the late 19th century.
On Sunday we went to the Colo-I-Suva forest park and walked around the trails, natural pools and waterfalls for the morning. We went for lunch at the raintree forest lodge which was very good food.
We head north on Tuesday to start a diving course. We have both signed up for our Open Water PADI certificate and we are going to be spending the next four days diving in the reefs around Fiji checking out the underwater world and hopefully avoiding the sharks.

krazy_lady27 I Rule! Well what can i say.. i'm speechless.. of course firstly i would like to thank Sean and my parents and everyone i've ever met. i am of course honoured that i now forever on the blog... unless you take me off! it just proves that my life as a student hasn't been a complete waste of time and i knew that watching rubbish tv would come in handy one day!! love you, miss you Jules xxxx
