Hey guys,
Here is the second update. . . So at the moment we are in CAMBODIA still. . . . In the capital city at the moment, called Phnom Penh. We got here yesterday (Friday) after a mammoth six hour coach journey, which wasnt pleasant as I was seriously hungover from the night before :(
We went out thursday, which was the day that we went to Ankwar Wat. It was such a long day as we woke up at 4.30 am to go and watch the sunrise at there, as it is one of the wonders of the world and supposed to be beautiful. As it turned out we got up bloody early to watch it rise and we couldnt even see it as it was too cloudy, which got everyone a bit annoyed. We spent the day looking around the temples there, which was good, and we got to explore the one that Tomb Raider was filmed in!!
So that night we all needed a drink (or ten) after the long day exploring temples, so we all went out for dinner and then on to a bar. All 16 of us went for dinner, thai food, and then the hardcore went on for drinks and we ended up in a Cambodian club - very strange and hippified lol. I decided to get on the buckets lol, so half a bottle of whisky and it was game over for me lol. Lauren was drunk too but she was clever enough not to have a bucket.
So the next morning we got our coach at midday and got to our hotel at 7pm!! The view from the coach window along the way was soo good in terms of showing us what Cambodia is like. We have learnt a lot about the countries history and it is a really sad, poor place that has been devastated by war.. But everyone seems so happy here and the Cambodians are lovely people, especially the children , they are too cute! So far we have been lucky with our accommodation :) We havent had to slum it yet - thank-god, but its weird that when we are staying in our hotels just over the road it is completely opposite and families living in tin huts on stilts :(
So today, Saturday, we woke up early and went to a place called S-21. Basically it was like a concentration camp where thousands and thousands of Cambodians were killed in the 1960's under there dodgy Primeminister. It was such a sad place and a lot of people were crying. It showed how the people were tortured and it was quite graphic, kind of like the holocaust museum. . . Then after that we got our coach to the killing fields which was where all of the Cambodian child soldiers that were brainwashed to kill, murdered all the innocent people and buried them in mass graves. It was a horrible place, as there were skull, bones and teeth still visible in the dirt.
It has been a real eye-opener for us to see how other people have had to live. Anyways, that was a bit depressing but good to see. But back on a positive note we are off to Sihanoukville tomorrow, which is south Cambodia and it is where the beautiful beaches are so we might be able to get a tan and not be so bloody pasty lol. Up at 6am though for a 5 hour bus ride there....long!
Love and miss you all
Peace out
