I have visited Brazil a few times as I have a Brazilian daughter-in-law who now resides in Ft Lauderdale Fla with my son. On my visits to Rio, Belo Horizonte and San Salvador in Brazil I, of course, saw the "favelas" - shanty towns occupied by the poorest members of the society. The homes are constructed of clay tiles and corrugated steel with normally no windows and no doors. In the attached video it shows a lighting technique for the inside of the homes during the daytime. It is very cheap and clever and it might be useful in the community in which you reside. It was sent to me by a friend and I was thinking of your current situation and thought you maybe could pass it on to someone who could help the people living in the inexpensive housing.
Read your blogs and it looks like you are having quite an experience. Good luck. About 65 years ago I read a line out of a poem that I never have forgotten. It was "God give me hills to climb and strength to climb them".. For the last 70 years He has done a good job of provided the hills and the strength. Hang in there.
You are missing some 40 deg weather - nicest winter that I can remember.

How amazing and creative is this? We take something so simple as windows and sunlight for granted - a luxury in a third world country.click here for an incredible video.

Loved your video! So exciting to be there first hand with you on the trip. You are kind to share with us. You two are amazingly strong, energetic people. It does bring back some wonderful memories of our Mission Trip in 2002 ... even though we weren't hiking up and down mountains. The relationships you make on this trip will last a lifetime! God speed!

Thanks for taking the time to share your journey with us. The history in these mountains is unbelievable. Can't imagine how they were able to build all of these areas. Take care.

Paul and Stephanie, Thank you for sharing all your wonderful pictures!! Isn't amazing how this area was developed years ago and all the back aches they must have had moving all the rocks etc. Beautiful country!

I love your first reflections and photos. I'm imagining you on your way to Machu Picchu today. I hope that the weather will be kind and that the views as you follow the Inca trail will be magnificent. How wonderful to walk through a part of this big world where you have not been before.
With love to you both and all those you meet.

So we're on our way to Keith's funeral today and Mallory says" Did Pastor Stephanie leave already?" I told her yes, and she was very upset that she didn't get to say goodbye. So here is what she wants to tell you: "I miss you Pastor Stephanie and Paul. I hope you're having a great time and I really miss you so much. I love you so much. I have a lot to say but I just can't remember it. So goodbye. Love~ Mallory"

Hy guys- hope all is going well. Elizabeth finds Dash excedingly easy to walk and he is getting lots of exercise! He is fitting in well and we are enjoying his company (even Maggie has taken a liking to him!)
It is snowing here, we are expecting 3-5 inches, hopefully you are having better weather.
