Colin and Jenny's Pure Mad Asian Travels
Saigon was probably the scattiest place we've been to for noise and traffic so we thought it would be nice to have a few days on the beach before we travelled up to hoi an. And what better place to go than Nha Trang, the biggest beachy holiday place in Vietnam, and where all the Vietnamese people go on holiday...
HMMM.
We got a horrible overnight bus (the girl infront of me spent the duration of the journey with her head out the window, puking) and arrived in Nha Trang at 6am. Neither of us had slept so we decided to get a few hours kip in and then spend the rest of the day on the beach.
When we woke up at 10am it had started to rain a bit, but I was determined to at least have a swim so I slapped on the factor 50 (....yup...) and we headed down the beach.
Within 15 minutes a full blown monsoon had started and me and Colshy were hiding underneath a beach umbrella with holes in it, surrounded by folk trying to sell us stuff..
For some bizarre reason, Colin decided it would be a good idea to try some of the seafood a woman was carrying around with her, in a big pot. She started preparing lobster and crab and shrimp and a whole host of delicious dishes for us (when I say prepare... i mean put them on a plate.. whether they were cooked or not was dubious because they were freezing cold but we were too wet and hungry to really care..). When we asked how much, she tried to charge us about 40 pounds! we got away with 3 quid each.. more than it cost in one of the ponsey resaurants 10 metres away!! Plus, Colin's been ill since. b****!
Anyway, we ran back to the hotel, got rained on some more, watched some crap TV and got the first train we could out of the place! I'm sure it's great when it's sunny, but it looked like Largs when we were there.
The sleeper train was cool, but not quite the same quality as the Thai trains. Each room had 3 bunk bed things on each wall, but with no curatin to give you any privacy and there was a wee old man in the bed opposite me! So, I slept in my clothes, and was too scared to get up to brush my teeth so when I woke up I looked a state and smelled very bad.
When I woke up in the morning, the wee old man was sitting upright, with his jacket on and his briefcase in his hand, so I thought we must be really close to Hoi An.... 3 hours later, he was still sitting in the same position. It was bloody 5am!! Why do they wake up so bloody early!! Plus he had a really bad cold and kept making really loud, horrible, snottery noises so he was NOT Colin's favourite housemate.
Anyway we arrived in Hoi An and aaaahahahaha its so gorgeous and aaaaah..... I think i'll let Colin write the journal for here because if I write it it will just be 'ah its so pretty and ah its so gorgeous..'. Best place yet!
Lots of love, Jenny xxxx
