Colin and Jenny's Pure Mad Asian Travels
I thought I'd put up an extra little entry about Chiang Mai, with my take on things; I've had a good 4 days extra than Jenny, remember.
Plenty to moan about here, so I'll start with what annoyed me least and work my way up from there. Kidding only, my pal Joe King wrote that.
Anyway, my picture of Chiang Mai is probably quite different from Jenny's. I think it may be the most attractive city on earth, but I don't know if Jenny agrees. The busy main streets go around the city, leaving the inner streets and the sois nice and quiet. This makes walking safe in comparison with Bangkok, where it seems to be accepted that motorbikes should climb up onto the pavements.
Seeing as I've been walking around by myself, I've been using my ipod alot, which is a great shame because the best thing about this city is how it sounds. On the first Sunday I wandered around the market to the sound of traditional Thai music, groups of youngsters playing Bob Marley on their guitars, and the general hustle and bustle.
The Sunday Market is amazing, and appears to be treated as some sort of pleasant civic duty. Everyone seems to really enjoy sitting behind their stall, wearing the yellow poloneck shirts bearing the symbol of the Thai royal family. Those not selling appear to be equally as happy shopping as the sellers are selling, as they too wear the royal badge.
..too tired, will finsih later...
