Today was spent walking in the beautiful low tetras mountains in blue sky and sunshine.
We rode for about 30 minutes and arrived in the ski resort. We left our bike at 10:30 and returned to it at 16:20 and climbing 600 meters, this was after saying we should take things easy today and not do anything strenuous, Colin had reminded me that we stopped 400 metres lower than the highest station so not too strenuous then!
The walk today included up, down and across ski slopes, through forests and along side babbling brooks and tumbling streams all very picturesque and beautiful in their own way.
We had a slight mishap at the beginning until we realised that the walking map we had been given was actually the routes down from the top station and not the walking routes up! Once we got our heads round this things became somewhat clearer although Colin did tell me twice that it was only 1 more up!
Whilst walking back through the forest we came across information boards telling us about the flora and fauna of the region which included bears, wolves, golden eagles and snakes. Colin went into say that he liked walking through forests with me as the midgies and other blood sucking insects always went for me and left him alone. Also if a bear attacked it would get me as he could climb trees quicker than me, in the event of a wolf attack, with my constitution of a dying cat (yes Danny, Sam did tell me), I would be the weaker one that they went for, allowing Colin time to escape! So nice to know how important I am to his well being!
We missed going to visit the ice caves as our walk was slightly longer than we expected and also missed the guided tour of the castle where we are staying, but a lovely day out was had!
We are meeting up with one of Colin's old ski partners from Nendaz this evening for a drink.
