Hi everyone!!!
So our bus journey from Adelaide took around 10 hours overnight on the 5th Feb, arriving in Melbourne early morning on the 6th Feb. For the first two nights we stayed in the city centre, a place called urban central....This was a great hostel, really clean, spacious and many bathroom facilties, which travelling as part of a group with 6 girls, we have learnt this is the most important thing so far....the BATHROOM hahahaha
For our couple of days in the city we headed to the Eureka skydeck, 287 metres high overlooking the entire city of Melbourne. Walking around the top of the building was scary and we were creeping round scared to go to the edge of the glass at first. We would def recomment this as a thing to do in the city, day or night the view was amazing and you could ahve as long as you wanted up there. Nikki and Hannah were the brave ones as they went out on 'the edge' a clear glass bottom room on the top of the building. We all discussed doing a skydive after being up so high, there was a mixture of responses!!!!! After we headed on the free shuttle bus around the city and checked out the war memorial grounds, art gallery, federation square, chinatown and many more. This was a good day and in the evening we chilled out at our hostel bar playing....'who am I?'where we put stickers on our heads and put famous names down...good fun and we made the most of happy hour.
Next day we visited the queen victoria market north of the city (which isn't very big at all by the way). This was really good, fruit and veg stalls, clothes, animal skin rugs, leather bags etc....the layout was very victorian and there was an indoor foodcourt selling meats, cheeses freshly baked bread. After we headed back to our hostel to collect our bags (the four million of them from the amount of clothes we have all been buying!!) and headed to our next hostel called Base in St Kilda where we are staying for 5 nights.
St kilda was a short journey via tram down the road, a really beautiful place with nice old fashioned style houses....but it seems to have a weird nut nut area like we do in Clacton...the likes of nutty pam are about all times of the day!! Our hostel had sever flodding in the beasement where the kitchen facilities are held so at the moment they are provided free breakfast and dinner for the guests....and so far the happy hour and drink offers are the best at base!! It certainly accomodates for the young and lively. We have an 8 bed dorm with a French gut and German girl with us and we all headed out last night for drinks which was good fun. Nikki has some friends here so we met them too and we saw someone we also met in Thailand!! It's a really nice area here with funky boutiques and really nice places to eat.
Thursday 10th Feb we visited the great ocean road!! This has been the highlight so far. We had a day tour, early start, late finish and our tour guide was fantastic. We done many stop offs along the way at different areas and the furthest point we could go to on a day tour was called 'London Bridge' obviously nothing like back home. When we arrived at the 12 Apostles we had the chance to go on a helicopter ride for 75 dollar....we all done it!! It was incredible. For 10 minutes we got some amazing photos and the scenery was amazing. W had great fun and our pilots were hot!!!
JO, Cheryl, Nikki and Hannah also done the neighbours tour!!! Proper cheesy but they had a great time and saw some of the cast members and would you believe neighbours had 18 millions viewers for Kylie and Jasons wedding, the most viewers the UK has ever had, beating X factor.
A few of us are heading to the 'good vibes festival' on Sunday and we CANNOT wait!!!!!!!!!!!
We are all still loving it here, met some great people and next stop will be Sydney where we will all be JOB HUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Things to remember in Melbourne:
Alot of nut houses in St kilda
Base is a great hostel to stay for somewhere lively and good location
The beach is lovely but the weather chops and changes too often and hasn't been that great so far considering it is summer season!!!!
The taxi drivers don't know where they're going
Great food and some really cool cafes around and the cakes are amazing!!!
There is a maccy Ds wherever you look here,,,if we wanted too we could easily be 18 stone........well we do have just under a year to go!!
Missing everyone lots!!! sending lots of aussie love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
