Fist stop of the day was Hokitika, the jade carving capital of New Zealand and Ellie was pretty disappointed that we didn't have enough time to have her beach rocks carved but we had to rush to our next stop to take a jet boat ride to see new Zealand's only nesting area for kotuku (white herons), although I was more excited to see the royal spoonbills (always thought spoonbills were very cool birds and these had a great hairdo as well as the funky bills).
