Clare and Ian Explore
Hello, its been a while I know, but thought we'd just add a quick message here to say we're no longer in Oz, but in Northern Thailand! Bit of a change of scenery, eh?
So since we last wrote we drove around the top of Western Australia, got rained on and chased by cyclones, flew over the Bungle Bungles (crazy dome shaped mountains), and then over into Northern Territory again. As we arrived in the town of Katherine, someone yelled out of a car "The floods are coming.... save yourselves!". Yeah, sure we thought as it continued to rain all night. Next day the normally 2 metre high river was over 18.9 metres as we stood on the bridge and the evacuation siren blared! Couldn't get out of town in any direction so had to go to the school on high ground and sit it out over night.
The road south opened 2 days before the road to Darwin so we thought, right a 2000 km detour to
Alice Springs and Uluru (Ayers Rock) should be a a good laugh! Back from 'the rock' we finally got through to Darwin and were amazed to sell Bruce in just a few days, and after that a couple of days and we were on a flight to Singapore.
So, onto Bangkok for a few days and now we're in Chang Mai, right up in the north of Thailand. Theres rainforests, ancient temples (with their resident friendly monks), river rafting and a whole lot of elephants! We'll let you know how it all goes soon. When we get back to Bangkok we'll meet up with Clare's friend Su and head back to Koh Phangnan for some serious chilling out.
Hope you're all well and maybe we might just be seeing you all again in the not to distant future?
See ya,
Ian and Clare xxxx.
