Ru and Bear's Global Escapade
Sorry for the gap in news.... if you check out the photo albums, you'll see how busy we've been!
Back in the South Island, the rain finally cleared and we did a hike up Fox Glacier before heading down through tranquil Lake Wanaka to Queenstown, the adrenaline capital of NZ. We watched someone else do a bungy jump (Chicken? Us? You betcha!!), drove to Paradise (oh yes!) and then headed west to stunning Milford Sound in Fjordland National Park. Next we skirted round the bottom of NZ, the most southerly point of our year, and across to Dunedin where we saw rare penguins and albatrosses. We tried (and failed) to coax Delilah up the steepest street in the world, and then continued north, past majestic Mt Cook and peaceful Lake Tekapo, back to Christchurch. From there we went dolphin watching in Le Bons Bay, and then up to Picton where we took Delilah for a ride on the ferry to North Island.
In Wellington, we caught with friends that we met in Vietnam and did an 'extreme bungy', and then spent the night in prison in Napier (don't panic, it's a hostel!). Next it was off to Taupo, where we threw ourselves out of a plane at 12,000 feet (woo hoo!!!!), and then up to Rotorua where we checked out the bubbling mud pools, geysers and sulphur smell - urrgh! We passed through Hobbiton (Frodo was out), marvelled at Cathedral Cove, saw 2000 year old kauri trees, drove down 90 Mile Beach, and finally made it to Auckland.
We've sold Delilah (boo hoo!) ready to fly to Chile on Monday. It was heart-breaking but she has gone to two lovely new mummies so we're sure she will be OK. We will be sad to leave New Zealand - we have really loved this spectacular country!! - but we are looking forward to South America and some panpipes, ponchos and salsa dancing!
More from the other side of the Pacific....
Love, me & her xx
