Ru and Bear's Global Escapade
Hola amigos!!
We're loving it here! Bolivia must have some of the most spectacular scenery we have seen yet. Beautiful mountains, cacti-strewn wild west desert, smoking volcanos, flamingo-filled lagoons, and the largest salt flats in the world: the Salar de Uyuni. Boy, has it been cold (minus 20 celcius at night!!) but well worth it for the incredible landscape.
The culture is fascinating too. At 3,600m above sea level, La Paz is the highest capital city in the world and consists of a sprawl of tiny houses clinging to the sides of a gaping canyon. The snow-capped peaks of Mt Illumani loom over the bustling city, and tiny ladies with long plaits and babies bundled up in colourful shawls on their backs scurry up and down the steep streets. Stalls line the streets selling ponchos, alpaca-wool goodies, panpipes and even dried llama foetuses (for luck, apparently). Bought loads (ponchos, not foetuses) but it's so cheap here it would be rude not to!
Heading back into Peru to check out the south coast.
More from there...
Mucho amor, las chicas xxxx
