Well, we flew from Nadi to Honalulu on Sunday night, then we arrived in Honalulu on Sunday morning! Thats right, we have flown back in time!!
Honalulu is basically a city by the beach. We are in the US now so everything is obviously American like the fast food joint on every corner, cars driving on the wrong side of the road, everybody shouting rather than just talking, a lot of diets being needed. Welcome to America!
We spent the first night in a hostel chilling out followed by a day of sun bathing. The next night certainly wasn't as quiet though as we met up with our fellow Hawaiian travellers from back home Reidy and Claire!
It was weird to see familiar faces after so long. But it didn't take long to feel like it'd only been 5 minutes since we'd last seen them. We went out for the night finding a place that did jugs of beer for 3$ each. We ended up getting in at about 5am and had a great night.
We spent another night in Honalulu before renting a 'compact' car (biggest car that dave's ever drove) to take us first to Pearl Harbour. It was cool to see Pearl Harbour and we got a boat out to see the wreck of HMS Arizona which got sunk in the attack and took down with 1200 unfortunate victims of the attack. We also watched a good little documentary about how the attack confirmed America's entry into the war and then went on to single handedly take out the Japanese and the Nazis.
From here we headed up to Pipeline beach on the north shore for a couple of days to check out surfing and do some body boarding. The waves were huge at over 10meters high and the boys spent all day getting battered by the waves whilst the girls took advantage of the sunshine. The waves were also quite unpredictable as one wave took out Claire whist she was videoing the surfer Daves and she along with the camera ended up underwater. Oops!
The next day we headed back to Honalulu and bought a new camera and went to catch the ferry to Maui. Unfortunatley due to a few delays we missed the ferry by about 5 mins so we ended up in a posh business hotel in Honalulu which was actually really nice with an amazing view of the Oahu Island from our 38th floor room! We booked a 2 bedroom condo in the area of Kihie on Maui and changed our boat to tomorrow morning - 5am wake up call!
