Leaving the tarmac behind, the road got a lot bumpier on the way to Fish River Canyon. I was beginning to see what people mean when they say "nobody lives in Namibia" - it is possible to drive for hours without passing another vehicle or a building - it seems to be very sparsely populated. We walked along the top of the canyon and watched the sunset there - it's an unusual landscape and the views were beautiful.
Among our group, responsibilities for cooking, washing up and cleaning the truck were divided up on a rota - this was my first day on cooking duty and we had spaghetti bolognese for dinner. Sammy made a chocolate cake for Candice's birthday (not an easy feat over a camp fire!).
There was another tour group travelling on an Acacia truck on the same route as us and we bumped into them regularly along the way, sometimes staying at the same campsites. Ruth and I had met a couple of them in Cape Town before the trips started so it was nice to catch up with them.
