The past week and a half has been amazingly busy! We left beautiful Goa on the 13th having decided that we had time to go up to Mumbai and meet up with fellow Kings World Trust Volunteer Lucia for a few days of sight seeing. Whoever said 13 was an unlucky number may have had a valid point. The bus was horrendous - 12 hours of people being sick followed by the bus breaking down at 4 in the morning did make for a memorable trip......anyway, Mumbai is MASSIVE. Home to about 18 million people, I was preparing for the usual combination of open sewers, rubbish and lots of cows - an association which had applied to all other cities we had visited. However, I was shocked by how clean the place was and it was no time at all before we were relaxing in the Salvation Army recovering from the bus ride.
Next day we were asked to do some filming.....not Bollywood unfortunately but we couldn't really turn down the offer, so off we went to the set for an advert, where we spent the rest of the day mostly sitting around finding ways to waste time! Anyway, we were paid - all of RS500 (the equivalent of 7pounds!) - for the privilege so all wasn't lost!
After a day of sight seeing, film watching and copious picture taking in Mumbai, we left for the famed town of Nasik - a town sacred to Hindus as the Ganges runs through where we spend this morning wandering the streets, watching some people swim with the sewage in the river whilst others stroked the cows......really, some people need a lesson on hygiene. Anyway, slightly confused by the excitement, we left for the famed Alora caves of Arungabad which we are hoping to see tomorrow!
All in all, an exhausting few days! Next stop, Hydrabad!!
