And so we come to the final blog of our trip. We fly home tommorow after 3 and a half months of the most amazing experiences. It doesn't seem that long ago that we arrived in Fiji but here we are in Mumbai on our last night!
After spending a few nights in the desert cities of Jodhpur and jaislamer, we had a marathon 18 hour train journey to India's captial, Delhi. It's crazy to think how much time we've spent in transport over the trip, even crazier that we've actually tried to count it!
We went first class (ooooooohhh!) on our next train jouurney down to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal, and pretty much all there is to Agra! We went along to the Taj with high expectations and it exceeded every one of them. Everything from the palace itself, to the relection of it in the water and the surrounding garden area is just beautiful. One of the highlights of the trip.
Our next stop was a place called Varanasi, another long train journey away and the furthest east we have been in India. We stayed in a hostel with a cracking view overlooking the River Ganges. The next day we went on a boat ride down a section of the Ghats(steps along the Ganges). Varanasi is one of the holiest cities in India, and people from all over the country bring dead relatives to Varanasi to be burnt at the side of the Ganges. We witnessed two burning sights on the trip, and while an odd experience, was also an eye-opening one. There were a few dead bodies that floated past us in the boat. They were a horrible sight but again showed some of the harsh realities of India.
A Few Words from Chris
Well when Tom asked me to sum up the blog and do his best man speech at the same time, what could I say other than "This guy!! Tom! yeah that guy! he's been on a trip! let's just hope she doesn't find out about or crazy last night in Mumbai, you hear me Mr. Graham...yeeeeahh you know what i mean" -collapses drunk
But in all seriousness this trip deserves a sum up and a sum up it's gonna get.
We have joked that there are five phrases that sum up the trip entirely, they wouldn't make sense to anyone and in a way they don't make sense to us
But it would in truth be much harder to sum up the trip just by these phrases we frequently used. It's been the best 3 and a half months of my life (not that i've judged any other 3 and a half months as a collective) and the most amazing experience of my life. I'm sad to see it go but happy to come back home, I've missed it and going to uni will be a whole new amazing experience.
I can safely and gladly look back at the trip and realise how many things we've done. Not a moment has been wasted and not a moment i want to forget. Thanks to everyone who either made it possible and just wished us well. I'll end now before I start sounding like an Oscar winner.
In the words of New Zealanders it's been 'Sweet As'
