Greetings from Queensland!
Local temperature approximately 30 degrees…humidity….80%
Yey we have internet! I am so happy that we are able to update you all on the first part of our travels, this place is absolutely amazing!
I am certain I am going to be using that word more and more over the next few weeks so I apologise in advance for all the happy adjectives I am about to use.
After a really quick flight of 3 ½ hours we landed in Cairns airport and it was so muggy! We were both getting a bit hot and bothered as we are still getting used to carrying all our possessions on our backs like turtles…anyway I digress...We picked up the hire car and stopped off at the supermarket to pick up a few snacks for tonight's tea.
The drive into the Tablelands was absolutely breathtaking! It reminded us so much of a little town in Canada called Aggasiz, with the mountains for a backdrop and hundreds of forest trees all around us.
When we arrived here at Calm Water Landing it definitely lived up to expectations! It is literally 100m walk to the edge of the lake and the view from the patio is just beautiful! Green hills, trees, birds and the glistening lake :)
After the busy week we have both had this place really does feel like a little piece of heaven, it is so quiet even as I am writing this the only sounds I can hear are Chris sleeping and the crickets!
We spent the afternoon making the most of our kayaks and exploring the water in search of the elusive resident platypus who unfortunately wasn't around…we will look again tomorrow and report back.
After drying off we had a delicious BBQ (Chris had to remove a rather large cockroach from it before we could start cooking..) but we stuck with it and the steaks were great!
We have had a brilliant first day travelling, really wish you could all see how amazing this place is :)
Speak to you all soon
netti & Chris xxxx
