Greetings!
Sitting in our chintz-errific motel room in Townsville after a cracking visit to Magnetic Island yesterday/today......
Mode of transport number 1: Greyhound (bus, not the dogs. we couldn't fit our backpacks onto their scrawny backs!). A mammoth 6 hour trip down from Cairns to Townsville. It was actually a pretty nice journey and we both slept loads the only downer was when the driver (in his autumn years bless him) insisted on playing a DVD of Congo at full noise. For anyone who's interested Congo is in fact the worst film of all time...........
Mercifully we got dropped off at the ferry terminal so only had to drag our bags & selves about 20m to get on the ferry. At the other end we were told to look out for a green car in which we' get picked up and were pleasantly surprised to find it was a Rolls Royce!
Our accommodation was brilliant, so much character from every nook & cranny! The new proprietors had been in only a week were only to keen to help and we ended up having a BBQ with them and an Irish couple sat out on the front deck only 15 metres from the sea. A good choice by Netti!
Our room was a tent with a tin roof on it. The entire tent was taken up by a very comfy double bed! After we'd worked out that we needed to sleep at the other end of the bed (humidity =100% temp = 24C at least!) closer to the fan it was really comfy except that Netti wouldn't budge from the very centre of the bed due to 'the bugs!!' :)
Woke up to some glorious tropical weather and to celebrate we went to the deserted beach gawped at the hoards of mini crabs, then laid on a rock and cooked! We even braved the jellyfish ridden sea, inside the netted off bit mind but I was still impressed with Netti as we both knew the Irukandji jellyfish (can be lethal!) would easily have fit through the net as it's only 2cm long! Mind you we were so hot we would have cooled down in a lake of piranhas so long as it was cool.........
Caught the bus around the island, which took all of 30 minutes! Then we sat outside our gorgeous guest house on the beach, contemplated staying another night then realised we better leave now or we never would!
Back to reality in Townsville slightly having an after-sun application shindig
We not big fans of reality so will head for Fraser Island tomorrow, that should do it :)
Take care everyone, talk soon
