Sorry I haven't been very good at updating my blog but at last i can fill u all in with the last 2 weeks.... From Sihnoukville we decided to go to a small island just off the coast of Cambodia called koh rong. We had to get a 2 hour ferry ride to get there. When we arrived the island was beautiful. Very hippy, relaxing with such a chilled out vibe. We hadn't booked any accommodation so we turned up and walked along the beach until we found a hostel which looked okay. We stumbled across Bamboo Bungalows and luckily we took the last room which was right at the top of the hill. We struggled to walk up with our heavy bags but made it to our little bungalow. The bungalow was made of bamboo with a thatched roof, the bed was covered with a huge mosquito net and our shower was pretty non existent. We did laugh.... We only spent one night here which was a shame but we loved every minute, relaxing by day and chilling at night tucking into out first BBQ on the beach with a beer. We tried barracuda which was delicious.... The next day we left to go to Vietnam. We had to get the boat back to Sihnoukville then a bus to phenom penh a change of bus there then another bus through the border of Vietnam and into Ho Chi Minh City ... The bus journey was HELL!!! The first half was only meant to take 4 hours but we broke down 8 times so it turned into 8 hours. Worst of all it was a night bus so we were tired and stranded on the side of the road with no English speaking people ... It was a very scary experience and the bus itself felt unsafe and we didn't know we were going to make it in one piece but we did eventually. We were so happy to get off the bus but then had to change to another one. At least on this one we got some sleep before crossing the Vietnam border with ease then heading into the city of Saigon ( Ho Chi Minh City )... Our time in Saigon was very limited as Soph was sick and stayed in a lot but we loved the city still. We got to see to war museum there and wondered around the mad streets taking it all in. The people were lovely here and would do anything they could to help..we visited a food night market and ate in some local restaurants which is the only way to enjoy the city fully. Next stop was a short hour flight to Nha trang which is on the coast of Vietnam. We spent 2 nights here. The city was very commercial and full or tourists as it was meant to be a party place. The beach was beautiful and the area itself was very nice. We spent a day in Thapba mud spa which was a fun day. The weather was nice too so we enjoyed a day in the sun as well. The baths were natural mineral mud which u sit in for 30 minutes before showering then entering the mineral waters. Your skin felt amazing after... That evening we found a gorgeous local restaurant serving Vietnamese food. More noodles but the food was awesome. It had only cost us £2 also which was a bonus, the drinks and food in Vietnam are so cheap and so tasty. From Nha trang we booked a morning train on a soft seat to Da nang which took 9 hours. The trains were quite pleasant and out seats we're comfy. The locals and blaring music around wasn't but we stuck our iPods in and slept through it. Every half hour on the trains trolleys got brought the carriages with so much cheap food. Sophie and I tucked into soup chicken rice soup for breakfast as everyone else did and it tastes pretty good for 25p..... When we arrived in Da Nang we had a 45 minute taxi drive to Hoi an where we stayed in a homestay for 2 nights which was lovely. The owners were delightful and took great care of us. We had breakfast included too which was handy as we hadn't eaten many breakfasts since we had been travelling. Hoi an was beautiful. A little village with a great friendly vibe. Hoi an is really famous for tailoring so Sophie and I splashed out on having a pencil skirt made ready for our interviews in Oz. They took 12 hours to be made and they turned out really nice... The following day we booked a cooking class at our homestays restaurant just over the road. We cycled to the market to pick up the ingredients then went back to make the food. It had cost us $20 which was cheap compared to other prices we saw and we got loads for our money, we made papaya salad (local dish ), shrimp pancakes with a homemade satay sauce and then finally shrimp and pork spring rolls. The food was so good and we made so much that we had to take most of it home and saved it for dinner. Then midnight nibbles after a few too many beers.. Our next stop is a short flight to Hanoi and halong bay.. It's all going way to fast!!!!
