I woke up this morning with the song," This is the day that the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it!" in my head. That is exactly what I decided to do. Sierra and I went for breakfast at a restaurant that the hostel we are in has a deal with. They serve us a simple breakfast of buns and coffee/tea. If we want more, we pay. The restaurant was on the second floor off the main square. As we sat down, a military parade went past the window. Pretty interesting. Just so very south American. Then we went to a money exchange booth, which are plentiful in Cuzco, and changed all of our remaining Chilean pesos, Argentine pesos and Bolivianos over to Peruvian Soles. The guy was kind of laughing each time we would pull out a new currency. Then we caught a cab to the collectivo street, and went to Pisac market. It is 5 soles by collectivo, or the taxi drivers in the square were quoting 80 soles one way or 100 soles there and back. It was 20 soles total by collectivo. The key is finding a taxi driver who will take you there. Pisac is a village about 20 mins from Cuzco. They have an open market there every day, but Sunday is the big day. If vendors come only once per week, it will be on Sunday. It was fun wandering through the stalls and bartering. Basically you endid up reducing the price by roughly 1/3. Sierra is very good at bartering. She does it with humor and respect, but still says, "no,no, no,no, that price is way too high!" or "yes, that is the lowest you can go for one, but we are buying two!" it fun watching her, because she and the vendor are both enjoying the process. There was one fellow where we bought a watch last time we were in Cuzco that told me I was a good mama because I had raised such a sharp daughter. Haha! He kept tapping his head and pointing at her, laughing and giving the thumbs up if she wasn't looking- Sierra being too busy searching in her wallet and coming up with not quite enough soles... Haha Yesterday a cab driver tried to charge us double what it should cost. He quoted us 20 soles. Sierra just said, "no Senior." and gave him 10. He looked at it and said "bien" which means OK, and drove away. Funny. I have done my own bartering too with success, but Sierra is a master at the game- walking away, but loitering near, using me by telling me what to say, etc. We left Pisac with our arms full, and had a lovely day. The road was cobbled in flattish rounded rocks set on edge in patterns, but the road was far from flat, and the uneven surface was so hard to walk on!! Designed that way to make buyers walk more slowly??? Haha! We stopped and had lunch from an Incan lady. Very good!! Later we had food at a restaurant. The meat in the little pastries was advertised as beef, but was definately Not beef. I don't mind the Alpaca, but Sierra finds it too gamey for her. She is very suspicious of all non-chicken here. Guinea pig is very common here too. Maybee it was Guinea pig??? Who knows? I wanted an alpaca overnight type bag, so i will use that bag, and Sierra is using the duffel bag that I brought for bringing our purchases home. While we were there a huge wind blew up. Everyone was scrambling to catch flying merchandise, hold tents down, etc. crazy! We had supper in a place on the square, with an outdoor patio. Might as well enjoy being outdoors! Soon we will be home in Canada. Because we are outdoors we are fair game for hucksters, and ended up buying some art yet too before we got our bill paid! Good meal with real beef!! Haha!! I had to convince Sierra to give it a try. The artist wanted to know if we were always so happy, and eventually figured we were high. Which made Sierra and I laugh even more. We are in a private room, but sharing a bed, which is hard when you aren't used to that. Last night we both crashed, but tonight Sierra kept tossing and turning and sighing, and I couldn't deal with the 20 lb wool blanket they always put on the beds here, and I immediately take off. It makes me claustrophobic. Last night in South America. I'm sure we can cope! Today we will relax, get some more muscle relaxants for Sierras shoulder, Finnish our packing and go to the airport around 2:30 for our flight at 4:50. We will have a 7 hour layover in Lima, which will suck, because we will just want to be on our way home. Not sure what we will do other than go out for supper. ???? I don't know for sure if they have a secure place to store our bags either. Oh well. It's just time- it will pass. It's hard to believe we will be home tomorrow.

Hank Did you see great big words spelled out with rocks or something on the side of a mountainside visible from Cuzco? I was watching an episode of the nature of things filmed this year and David Suzuki was in Cuzco. That grabs your eye in the background!
