Mui Ne, a beach resort full of Russians. A 5 hour sleeping bus journey north later we arrived at our guesthouse. It had a swimming pool with steps down to the beach! That day we chilled on the sunbeds watching the fisherman in the sea, some raking the sand for shellfish but most in fishing bowls/bathtubs- thats the only way to describe them! So that night we walked up the beach road to the local seafood 'restaurants' offering today's catch. They had crabs, prawns, lobsters, terrapins, groupers, cow fish, red snapper all in fish tanks still living. Also on offer was stingray and crocodile plus a load of shellfish! We felt quite strange picking our seafood but had freshly barbecued red snapper and some small clams.
The next day we took a jeep tour, an old Russian army 4x4 that was donated in the Vietnam war. We visited the fairy stream, a very shallow soft sandy stream that carved its way through the rocks and sand dunes. En route to the white sand dunes we stopped at the fishing village where the sea was dotted with colourful boats, just like a painting! The white sand dunes were vast and the landscape with both the sea and the oasis, was breathtaking. We ran to the top avoiding the quad bikes and took a few pictures. It was such an unusual landscape so close to the coast! Our last stop was sunset at the red sand dunes. It had been another day to remember.
That night we ate more seafood. This time deep fried sea tuna, barbecued cowfish (I saw these diving- poor fish!) and 6 mini scallops! Yum!
Off to Nha Trang next.
