It feels like only moments ago I was writing about my trip from Townsville to Brisbane (probably because it was…)
Flying into Brissy I dropped my bags off at Lachys place and then jumped into the same cab and headed down to somewhere on the river… I had no idea which direction we were heading by the time the cabbie pulled over and said "this is it". I walked along the river back and found Lachy and some of his extended family having a BBQ on the grass. Afterwards Lachy, Ryan and I headed out to see a live band Lachy knew about. I had arranged for an old friend of mine from Canada to meet us there. It turned out to be a pretty cool bar with a whole assortment of old school game systems along the walls that you could play. Yes, it was as hipster as you are imagining it to be. Several hours later the crowd had thinned to myself, Ash (Friend from Canada), Lachy and a rather persistent young lady that fancied Lachy and was blissfully unaware that he did not reciprocate her feelings. After the bar had closed and this young lady (I cant remember her name) was practically falling asleep on her feet, Lachy and I enthusiastically said we were going to head to another bar, the whole time desperately hoping she wouldn't call our bluff and just leave… Success she finally gave up and left us at the bar. After a few short minutes waiting for her to be well clear of the bar we wandered out free to head home without her. Crisis averted. The next night Lachy was working so I headed out to catch up with Ryan and another girl from the night before. Not particularly in a drinking mood I ended up wandering home late and still surprisingly sober for the second night in a row… no mean feat for me.
After two fun nights in the Brissy house I bid the boys farewell and headed down to Byron Bay. With a few late nights under my belt and a dorm room all to myself I decided to leave the delights of the Byron night life to the next night. Byron consisted of a few days relaxing on the beach and a few bizarre nights, one of which involved a rather deep conversation about Gay marriage with an Indian Pom, I managed to convince him by the end of the night that Gay marriage should be legal.
I broke up the drive from Byron to Sydney with a night in Port Macquarie. Not a particularly interesting place, but most places wouldn't seem interesting if you have just come from Byron Bay. A quite night out with some of the people at the hostel I was staying at.
After a lazy morning I hit the road to make it to Sydney in time to have lunch with Huwie and Pam. I was hoping to have a night out with Huwie as it was the first time I had seen him since he and Nat got engaged but unfortunately they were heading to the south coast for the long weekend so I settled for lunch. After lunch I headed back to Mill Hill and caught up with Dave and Pat.
That Friday mullet flew into town and we were all geared up to have a big night with all the boys back together for the first time in a few years. Unfortunately we completely forgot that it was good Friday so the pubs closed early and there were no bottle shops open. So much for church and state separation… So dejected and demoralised we bumbled around hoping to stumble on somewhere that was open that didn't involve the cross… of course we had no luck at all. Terrible timing really because two girls that I had met in Port Macquarie were staying in Bondi so I was hoping to meet up with them as well but once again Jesus has foiled my plans…
After Sydney I headed down to cold old Goulburn for my grandma's 80th birthday party. It was the first time I had really talked to a lot of the generation above me (Last time I had seen most of them I was knee high to a grasshopper). The general consensus for the night was an absolute blast and I thoroughly agree.
Then after one last night in my old bed it was back to the dawn dash to Canberra to make my flight back to work.
And now here I sit three days away from doing it all again… I will try not to leave a few months before my next entry… try being the operative word there…
Till next time…
Adios.
