After a week of living in the country I was back to the hustle and bustle of Sydney for a week of gardening and general tidying at Hughes house in Watsons Bay. Watsons Bay is just lovely it has views out to sea and also of the city. I spent the week gutting the garden cleaning the house and making it more presentable. It was an ideal set up finish work then head to the beach to chill out and relax at the beach with a bit of swimming too. I was staying with Nicola who works for Hugh back at the Imperial Hotel in paddington on top of the pub. It had fantastic views of the harbour. It was a utter bliss, a fancy apartment and did I mention it was free?
On the Friday Hugh announced that I was heading to we in would be heading to another property, Avondale. So we set out on the journey of getting there I was driving Hugh was either having a nap or on the phone. We drove all through the Blue Mountains past all the places that we had visited when we had camped out there. After 3 hrs of driving we got to Bathurst and Hugh took over the driving and after another hour we arrived in a little town called Mandurama. The station was up a dirt track literally in the middle of no where. If you didn't want to see anyone else this was the place to come. It was a 600 acre property with a homestead and a whole host of different horses. Oz or ozzie and Chris lived in the homestead Oz is Hugh's dad and Chris his partner. Oz is a great character who is now retired, from some of the stories he told he had lived an incredible life so far. He had a real love for country music and this is something I have never really heard anything about before. It is in fact not so bad and Oz had in fact written songs for professional artists he had 7 songs in the country music chart! He had done all of this whilst maintaining a career in farming. I could go on forever telling tales but I will remember for the rest of my life. Chris was a bit of a character too she worked in the local hospital. Hugh warned me of the fact that if I were to get into a wine drinking competition with her I would get hurt. This aside she was lovely they both were I was made so welcome and had a great time living in a dreamland for week. Oz bred horses and they had some lovely horses 9 in total. My roIe there was gardening and generally helping out as an when needed. This certainly kept me busy as the garden was a bit out of hand. The weekend was full of activities and sightseeing l was taken on a trip to see the local area calling in at all the local pubs along the way of course.

Sarah Mckiernan I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Avondale...my family owned it and I lived there from birth till I was 21!!! There is a huge amount of history in that house and even a resident ghost!!! Sad to hear the garden is worse for wear as it was my mums pride and joy!!!
