We started the day on a walking tour and saw downtown, the old palace, the municipal buildings (all guarded by soldiers since the World Cup due to protests) and the Selaron Steps, which were much bigger than I expected.We then got the cheapest Uber ever through Santa Teresa up to Christ the Redeemer, which was amazing and much bigger than it looks from the city. We went on a walking tour of a favela with a local guy called Obi. It was really interesting, he told us about how the police took control from the drug dealers in 2011 (and that they preferred the drug dealers), how poor they are eg they 'borrow' electricity from the government, how they prefer to give all their money to locals doing small jobs instead of corporations. Amazing food and views too!Later we walked all the way along Ipanema beach up to anoth...

We arrive in Brazil for the start of our 6 month tour! And in the airport there were carnival dancers and drummers to welcome us at arrivals!All this travelling takes it out of you though (as does being up until 5am repacking) so we just had a walk around the hostel in Ipanema. City were playing so we then found a bar to watch it in and had our first caipirinha of Brazil!

Haven't been to the homeland for years, and thought we'd do some tourism whilst we were there!  I was still sick on Boxing Day so spent most of the day in bed, but from the next day I was ready to get on the Causeway Coastal Route.

We spent the day getting fully massaged and prepped ready for the journey home! Finished this off with a nice dinner and one last drink together in Seminyak!
