We set off early on our tour of the desert. On our way to breakfast, our guide told us a bit about the landscape, which has lots of volcanoes that take in water from underground streams, making some of them swell into cones, and make the altiplanic lagoons we were touring later. There were loads of remains there and they think that the indigenous Tilcara people set it up, before being conquered by the Inca, so it then became an inca site. Today we went out to the museum of archeology of the high mountains. It was definitely worth staying in salta for, although a bit creepy.It was all about the pre Hispanic people who had lived in the Andes, and featured loads of artefacts that they had found at the top of a mountain in a ritual burial site, in which the inca people had buried three children alive. We got up early and got a bus for a few hours to salta, the local city. The plan was to head to look around and particularly go to a famous inca museum for the day.
