1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
Today we leave Mexican hat and the state of Utah. We have been through California, Arizona and Utah now we will be in Colorado this afternoon. The morning is pretty much normal. Doug and I play leapfrog from stop to stop. Doug did see a cave at the bottom of a Mesa (Doug and I did have to research the difference between a mesa and a butte. The only difference between a mesa and a butte is its size. Most geographers say a butte is taller than it is wide, while a mesa is a much larger, slightly less elevated feature of the landscape). Doug did venture into the mouth of the cave and he said it was an old Indian pueblo that had paintings on the wall and a black ceiling from the fires they burned. The terrain seems a lot like the terrain we have been seeing until we come around a curve and all of a sudden, we are in a lush green valley with trees, grass and livestock. McElmo Creek runs along the highway for roughly 41 miles and they use water from the creek to irrigate the land thus making it lush and green. In several spots the fluffy stuff from the cottonwoods (It look kinda like a dandelion when you blow it) made it look like it was snowing there was so much of it floating in the air. The road was incredibly bumpy in the truck so, I know it was rough for Doug on his bicycle. I have compassion for Doug and what his backsides feel like after 41 miles on this bumpy road.
We did arrive in Cortez, Colorado and Doug wanted to go ahead and pedal to the motel so he could just leave from there in the morning. After we had checked in Doug went and soaked his legs in the cold swimming pool and I took a nap. We decided we were going to church and Doug looked up the churches with a Sunday Evening service and we decided to attend the Cortez Church of Christ. On our way to Church Doug wanted a McDonalds milkshake and when he went in they told him the machine may not be working correctly so they could not serve him a milkshake. He told them he did not care about the consistency and they gave him a free milkshake. I told him the only stipulation of having a milkshake is he could not slurp it in church. Luckily, he finished it before church and I did not have to worry about him slurping. (sometime pastors can be mischievous when they are not in the pulpit) We were blessed by attending the Church of Christ. They were a very friendly church! We weren't actually the only guests. A firefighter helping fight the Burro Mountain fire nearby came to church also. The message was good and we had Communion. I asked if they have Communion every Sunday and they do. (I Like John Wesley's thought on Communion and that is you should share Communion every time you gather)
After Church we asked where we should have dinner and they recommended Jack and Janelle's Country Kitchen. Several church members went there after church and we joined them. The owners of the restaurant were church members too. We had a great time of sharing a meal together and you would not have known we were two complete strangers with all of the conversations and laughter. Dinner was delicious and the owner Jack gave us the church member discount - so we were blessed twice this evening with inexpensive Food. We returned to the motel for a night of well needed rest as today had been a pretty rough/bumpy ride for Doug. Today was a great day made complete by worshiping and fellowshipping with fellow Christians. God is so Good!
