helllo :) we were going to do 4 entries, but then we decided it'd probably bore you all to death so we'll just give highlights :P
First day we got there and we were out on the sea with our surf boards (which were very heavy, and got heavier as the week went on as we became more and more tired) pretty much straight away. Then when we got out of our wetties we had lunch with everyone and began to make many friends. The instructors decided they couldn't be bothered learning my name so called me Kay (which i answered to suprisingly quickly) and when sams instrucors found out he was from near liverpool he was known as hooligan hehe (with many a reference to pool balls in socks).
The lessons were fab, they had me standing on the board by the end of the day, sam took to it really quickly so was surfing away with his group, though by the end of the second lesson we were both shattered (along with everyone else in the camp!) We had a nice big tea and it makes you pretty hungry surfing all day and then everyone went straight to bed by 10 as this was when we had to quieten down! We were staying right by the beach in a camper park in proper beach huts (it could be used for a surfer movie set)
Second day and we were up super early for breakfast at 7! I don't think anyone was really used to that kind of time except for the instructors who'd already been out for a surf at 6am! We had a yummy continental breakfast and then straight into our wetties (which were still cold and damp!) for the first lesson of the day. We had to have a 15 minutes stretching session before this lesson as people were a little sore and stiff from the first day (there's a lot of pushing up involved and fighting against the waves). Lunch was just as yummy as breakfast and then we were pretty much straight out for the second lesson in the early arvo (we're catching on to the Aussie lingo:P) After we'd all showered, more or less the whole camp and the instructors went to the pub for a few drinks before tea. And all the lads bought some take away beers and the girls bought wine for after tea (the second night is the party night at camp as we get a lie in third day). And when we say party night, I mean chugging beers through a contraption called snorkie (snorkel with funnel attached) and drinking games such as ring of fire and slaps. I think its safe to say sam thoroughly enjoyed himself not entirely remebering how the night unfolded with all the drunkies deciding to go skinny dipping in the sea (I looked after his clothes for him haha)
A later start on day three allowed people to recover and have a coffee, including a few of the instructors ( tho sam wasn't able to make the first lesson of the day and sat on the beach watching us all surf haha,at least he made it out of bed unlike some of our other friends) It was a gorgeous day really sunny and I managed to burn my nose slightly(which the instructors all found hilarious, but looked after me giving me zinc to protect my face like they all wore) By the end of the day we were progressing onto small green waves(the unbroken ones) so really felt like we were getting somewhere. After tea a few of us walked up to the pub although this time it was for an ice cream and to watch the stars before heading back to bead for 10.
An early night as we got up for a 6AM surf to see what it was really like to live a surfer life, breakfast was the best thing that happend to us after that as we were all starvinggg! A group of us didnt go for the 11am surf (sam did) as we were so exhausted and wanted a shower before the mad rush came hehe. We went down to the beach though and watched everyone surf, including the instructors( who were showing off, but amazing) although people were dropping out like flies and coming to sit on the beach for a rest.
We had lunch and packed up before heading into the small town of Gerringong for an icecream (and sam needed new thongs) back onto the coach for the 2 hours journey to scubar in Sydney for a free beer and pizza and having a good old wiggle with everyone! It was sad to say goodbye to everyone but we've all swapped facebooks and hopefully get to meet up with some as they pass through surfers paradise.
Next blog is going to be in a few days and we leave 7am tomorrow for Surfers which is a 2 day trip for us, we're going shopping for some food for the trip today and not much else, just recovering from camp.
Missing you all, xxxx
