We stayed in Mui Nei for a few days which had a lovely beach but quite windy so very popular for kite surfers and other water sports. We had a nice cycle ride 20k into the local fishing village. We then headed to Ho Chi Minh City which was just as crazy as Hanoi but with more night life. We had a few good nights out in the bars meeting some brizilian footballers who play in vietnam and some funny Aus guys who we may see later in the year when we hit aus. We went to the reunification palace in the morning of our first day which was where north vietnam re claimed back the south. It had lots of pictures from that day and some old tanks and also provided a lot of info dating back from before the US war. That afternoon we went to the war museum which was very interesting and not for the faint hearted. It had so many pictures and showed so many shocking readings, we spent hours here. It can be quite confusing when trying to work out the facts from this war with so many different stories obvioulsy coming from different sides. The next day we went to the Cu Chi tunnels which is where the vietnamese Gurillas lived and faught their war. They showed us some traps that were used on the Americans, sniper holes which i went down and the main tunels which were on three levels. Most have been widened for us westerners but on the third level down, one spot got very tight. Annie then went and shot an ak47 or something, think its a machine gun, i was going to but it was so loud, i thought my head was going to explode and had to run away before she even shot hers. It was a very interesting few days spent in Ho Chi Minh City.We then made our way to Cambodia and stayed in Phnom Phen for two nights. During the day we went to a museum which was used as a prisoner camp during the Khamer Rouge period. It was a school before Pol Pot decided to ruin the country and used this school as a touture chamber before taking the prisoners off to the killing fields. It had so many mug shots of all the people kept there young and old. We then went to the killing fields in the afternoon, it didn't really feel right being there after seeing everything in the school and reading some books so it was a very brief stop. All quite depressing but very informative, i am probably learning more now than i ever did at school. I had hardened to a lot of the poverty that i have been seeing especially after India telling myself that i can't save the world but it has really softened me to it again after seeing all i have seen in the previous week. Thare are so many people still affeced by these horrible things so i try and help where i can.We have now taken a break and headed down to Sihanoukville which is a beach area in the south. It is very lively here and have been out drinking with some crazy irish boys, nz lads and met back up with a few Canadian girls who we met in Laos. The weather is not so good right now, there is a lot of rain every now and again, maybe coming from the disaster weather in Burma which is now in thailand. Our next destination is Thailand so we will be keeping a close eye on it before booking any buses.
