The scene was set with Queenstown before we even arrived. The first stop on the coach was to a bridge bungy jump, where it all started. I have no intention of taking part in such a ridiculous activity, but i did watch quite a few people, jumping or no so elegantly falling with arms flaying and rather hilarious screams. No way on earth i would do it, just thinking about it makes my stomach turn!
When we arrived at out hostel, we had already planned our first night out, and hit the town to see what was going on. It was really busy there was live music and everyone we had met was on great form. There was also lots of gossip as well, its a very small town.
I decided that I was going to save my activities for other places as Queenstown is very expensive, so we found all of the cheap things to do. My total favourite was taking the Gondola up to the top of a mountain overlooking the town. It was there we did the Luge. You had these little go karts, which to move you pull the handle towards you to go and back to stop. We had 6 rides, thinking this was a lot, however all turned into complete children bashing into each other and racing, we could have had a lot more. The only thing that went wrong was while getting the ski lift to the top I lost my flip flop and had to retrieve it from a slightly steep hill face.
One of my top things to do, thanks to Jill, was visiting a place called Milford Sounds, which is in the Fjord country. There were 12 of us in our group and we booked cars and went on a very long road trip. It took about 4hours to get there, although again can't complain lots to look at. We arrived in time to catch or boat, only the 12 of us on it, lovely and we got free tea and coffee, i was very happy! It was awesome, the rain had cleared up and although Alex and Jill can vouch that I am some sort of repellent to animals (they never seem to appear when i am around, got rather annoying diving) I saw loads of seals, even baby ones so cute and then even better about 20 wild dolphins. it was I am afraid to say it magical! I had the best day. The Fjords themselves were also great, as it had been raining there were lots of waterfalls etc. We made it back in good time with danny driving and all went straight to bed.
Still saving money the next day we didn't get up to much, we were all pretty tired and caught up on books etc... apart frm the boys who went off to go and jump from an even bigger bridge, I think 134m bungy, no way was I even going to go and watch! Final day we played indoor crazy golf, very amusing and hit the bars for our last night as a group. A brilliant night out, lots of sambuca, some gorgeous farmers and some classic dancing!
Next morning no one was feeling very well, up early the whole journey was touch and go for the majority, but we made it over to Dunedin in one piece. Dunedin, was not at all impressive, it was raining and there was nothing to do. I still felt awful and after a nap ate tea and went to bed feeling rather worst for wares! We also had an encounter with the owner who was a total arse, and Barry called him a greedy maggot! Made my day!
We left early in the morning and headed over to Lake Tekapo. Laura and i were really looking forward to getting here as we had horse riding and hot pools planned. We were staying in the Lake Front Lodge, but the weather was rubbish and there was nothing to do except a puzzle. Well that is not entirely true, all the girls went to the hot pools for a few hours to relax after the journey then came back and helped with the puzzle. We started it at about 6pm and still had not finished at midnight. We had so many people help us, it was a relief to see that it was still there the next morning.
Laura, barry and I all got picked up and were taken to the stables. We were all given a horse, mine called Frank. Frank was lovely apart from when he didn't do what i wanted him too, but we went on a 2 hour trek around the mountains and along the lake. Again great views! heading to Christchurch tomorrow and getting a flight up to the north island. Time in New Zealand going too quickly!
