After Guatemala I went to El Salvador, but I only visited one spot there before I was to move on again. The place I visited was the beachtown Playa El Tunco. A typical relaxed and chilled surf spot in Central America.
El Tunco had very good waves for surfing, and the beach is good for both beginners and more advanced surfers, so that makes it a good choice for surfers. The town is very relaxed, but it is possible to find some action at night, though you might have to find the one bar with partypeople during the weekdays.
There are a lot of nice hostels in El Tunco, and most of them have (outdoor) kitchens where you can cook your own food. If you're not a Jamie Oliver, you can easily eat out in the street kitchens or the restaurant, where you find great food to fair prices.
During my stay there the weather was very warm, and even at night you were all other than freezing, so in that direction there was nothing to complain about. Actually there is nothing to complain about regarding to Playa El Tunco. Nice waves, nice people, nice weather, nice food, nice hostels and nice bars. All you want and expect from a quality surf spot.
