Delhi - what a contrast to any other part of India I had seen. This is where India's money is spent. The capital city is split into New Delhi and Old Delhi. New Delhi has been designed by the British and consists of fully functioning roads with traffic lights and zebra crossings, it was also clean which was a massive shock as I did not think this word existed in India. There's proper housing, people in suits going to work with mobile phones and mp3 players and I also found a TGI Fridays restaurant and a Nike store - I was amazed, there was also a restaurant called Piccadelhi!
Old Delhi however was nothing like New. The streets and buildings were filthy, the traffic was pure chaos with children darting between cars at red lights performing for money or selling wind-up toys to drivers and passengers. Their were slums on the roadsides too.
A taxi driver said that by 2010; when Delhi is hosting the Commonwealth Games, the Metro (currently in the process of being built) will be fully functional and the whole of Delhi will be clean - to create a sense of the probabilty that this will happen, I visited the sacred burial place of Gandhi - where you had to remove your shoes - to see a man urinating in the same area.
