Damn, didn't want to be annoyed while writing my last blog of the trip, but unfortunatly the kind people at Cathay Pacific and Escape Travel have really done a number on me.I'm writing from Hong Kong airport where I wait patiently for my flight to Melbourne. What nobody failed to mention to me is that this flight actually goes via Adelaide, so even if I don't have to leave the plane during the stopover I certainly get a couple of hours added to my trip home :-( and with this being the third flight in the last 36 hours, I'm more than a little annoyed at this development. But first lets write about some actual holiday shall we?
The final island in my Greek Island hopping adventure was Ios and I had been warned from many corners that it was a huge party island. I would have appreciated this more if I was 8-9 years younger like the rest of the crew and if I wasn't already partied out and just craving some relaxing beach time. But still, I managed to pull myself away from the beautiful sand (yes, we have a return to sand beaches in Ios) and clear blue water to go to the Busabout pizza dinner and night out on the town. Glad I did since it was a lot of fun, lots of dancing and tasty cocktails to drink. But misfortune struck again were one of the girls I was hanging round with stumbled down a stone stairway and sprained her ankle. So after an unscheduled stop to the 24hr doctor then an hour waiting to get a taxi 5min drive up the road, I was safely tucked away in bed by 5am.
Staying at yet another camping site has its advantages. The beach is literally on the doorstep and it's quite an affordable option for the solo traveller. Pity bout the lack of air conditioning that makes it impossible to sleep past 7am due to the heat.
Good thing my final day int he Greek isles was spent were they all should have been spent, on the beach, swimming in the ocean and finished off with a nice seafood dinner on the coastline with a nighttime view of the ocean.
What follows now is a series of transits between Greece and Australia which I could b**** about for some time. But to save you all from mindless boredom I will summarise my transportation woes in dot point:
Ferry to Athens - ferry was an hour late, no surprise there, but the metro was also down so had to a) find the right bus to take me to athens and b) wait for said bus
Plane from Athens to London - metro train decided not to show up for half an hour so barely made it through check-in and passport check to my plane tht left an hour late.
Plane from London to Hong Kong - all fine except for very uncomfortable seating resulting in little to no sleep. Wish i had the cash for first class.
So there we have it, my trip is done and so now is this blog. I hope you've enjoyed my rantings and crazy (okay, tame) adventures. Thanks for your messages all who have written. Might have a few more pics but otherwise that's all from me.
