Off back to Rio- flights went great. Lovely weather - on rooftop sunbathing . Out for Italians tonight- found a place on trip advisor - massive bouncer on the doors and outside- you really need to think about where you go here. Hotel car dropped off and picked up. It was only a few streets off Botofogo , a nice port area, but still a little worrying. Home 10.45 - day trip tomorrow to petrolis .

Around the pool weather great- 3pm speed boat trip up the parana river- huge expanse of water - 60 metre deep and hundreds of metres wide, thousands of kilometres long. Off into an estuary with a great waterfall we could swim under - decided not to as the water looked a little muddy- stopped off on a remote beach where guide offered up savoury snacks and ice cold beer in the hot sunshine - heaven! Home and back to pool- glass of wine on the viewing deck to watch...

Chilling around the pool for the next few hours - off for a spot of lunch,back around the pool. 3 pm off to parana river for a boat excursion .

Off walking in the jungle . Came across a huge black wasp , which was hunting tarantulas. Apparently they have a huge scrap - the wasp then carries the spider off- injects its eggs into it- keeping it alive, the wasp waits for the eggs to hatch and then it's young eats the tarantula from the inside- how nice! Not just humans that can be brutal .

More interesting facts - Brazil - 60 million people are in poverty- 30%. The government will give them 2 meals a week - they will feed kids if they go to school- scary. Argentina- on the way to the lodge there where children and families along the road- living in mud huts near the road- they a given permission by the government to live in the jungle - hunting for food- with the occasional handout- desperation and abject poverty - sad.
