We left Mullawa and headed down the inland route towards Perth. We've given up on seeing the plentiful wild flowers that we had hoped for but appreciated the random small patches of flowers we did see. Everyone was telling us this was a bad year and the stunted grain crops we saw told the same story. My last blog entry saw us at Onslow where I was having treatment on my leg for the infection I got from hitting it on a large rock in Hamersley Gorge swimming hole. I spent nearly three weeks going backwards and forwards to the hospital and with five lots of antibiotics later (two injections and three courses of tablets) I am relieved to say I was given the all clear. We stayed one night at Port Hedland, with just enough time to wander the town and Port area, book the campgrounds in Karijini at the visitor centre and do the Twilight Bus Tour. On the tour we were driven out to see from a distance, the salt and iron ore mining operations that happen in Port Hedland. We crossed the border into Western Australia, admiring the beautiful, changing landscapes as we headed towards Kununurra. We gained an hour and a half as we hit the WA time zone and reached the Agricultural Showgrounds at only 9.30 in the morning. We left Tennent Creek behind us as we head up towards Darwin. On the way we stopped at the free camps at both Newcastle Waters and King River. We did a quick food shop in Katherine before heading out to Pussycat Flats at Pine Creek.
