Friday 16th January 2009 - Arrived in Philadelphia
One flight, three trains and a bus later we landed at our destination. The flight wasn't bad, it took 8 hours but as we flew with BA we could drink as much as we liked for free. So a few bottles of wine and a few beers were consumed! Before getting off the plane the pilot told everyone the temperature was -8 which we later found out was the coldest day of the year. As we arrived on a Friday evening we headed out to the bar and enjoyed a few pints of the famous Pennsylvanian brewed Yuengling. (Beautiful lager!) We were supposed to go out for one, which turned into four. We were quite sensible as the the beer was going down so well we could have stayed there all night.
Met up with a few friends over the weekend and on sunday went to watch the Philadelphia Eagles at a local bar. (American Football) The winner of the game went to the superbowl so was a great atmosphere until they lost in the last minute. The rules took some getting used to, and the game is so slow with many stoppages, however we were starting to enjoy ourselves and by the end were devestated (The 4 hour happy hour helped console us).
Much to our surprise we were woken up at 8am on Monday morning to do a days work in return for our food and accomodation.
A few Americans in a bar mentioned a website for late deals within America and we ended up booking Vegas 24 hours later. Should save us money in the long run as we would have been spending 10 nights in New York which is much more expensive. (Depends how the Roulette goes though......)
Wednesday was pencilled in for Philadelphia which is about an hour from where we're staying. We headed straight for the Rocky Steps where we took far too many photos and videos. After running up and down the steps a load of times to keep warm we headed to South Street for a famous Cheese Steak Hoagie.
We are heading out for happy hour later tonight and looking forward to the last weekend in Doylestown before flying to Vegas on sunday.
We will update you on all our Vegas adventures next week before we head off to Washington DC.
