Once in Noosa like normal we found a car park with a toilet and cold showers. Once parked up we got dinner on the way; think we had warmed up leftovers that night. Then I went to wash my hair; it has just got dark so I was my hair under the cold shower but torch light. Half an hour later the lights in the toilets turned on…. If only I had waited; oh well! That night after a few card games and last few bottles of wine from the Hunter we headed for some bars. A few wines, mixers and shooters later we rolled back to the van. After only a few hours sleep we hear knocking on the van door; the bloody council are there moving us on as your not allowed to camp in their car parks! We took our time getting dressed and brushing our teeth then we went to find breakfast, rather hung over. Then we lay on the beach LUSH. We decided it was not a good idea to park there again so we drove to Rainbow beach, also from here we could arrange our trip to Fraser Island.
As soon as we left Noose the weather got pooh. We decided after the council man experience we would park in the grounds of a hostel also for the small camping charge we could use their showers with warm water and electricity :) we spent the next day walking on Rainbow beach with its 26 different coloured sands and washing our clothes. The next day a 7am pick up for Fraser. It was grey….. Despite the weather the boys went in the famous Lake Mackenzie and we had fun in the 4x4 driving around Fraser Island. We even saw dingoes and a manta ray. The dingoes on Fraser are the only 100% pure breed left in the world.
From Rainbow Beach we drove to Hervey Bay. That night at 8pm a police car pulls up next to us as were a drinking and playing cards; we are like OMG…. But they were nice police and wanted to warn us about 'local abo kids rumbling backpackers' they also said the council would be around that evening to move us on; they did however recommend a safe spot to camp. So before I was over the drinking limit we drove to the safe spot! That night we locked our windows and slept with torches and the van keys under our pillows. We woke up in the morning fine and drove quickly, as we were all desperate for a wee, to the car park we had originally parked in the night before. Surprisingly there were no other vans there; an hour later they all started re appearing. Guess the police were right and they had been moved on! After another morning on the beach we left for Bundaberg; home of rum YUMMY :)
Arriving in Bundaberg we were surprised by the lack of nothingness and inbreadness….. It is like one of the biggest towns in Queensland! The pubs had weird signs like "patrons must wear shoes" "no ID no service, no matter what age" "no shooters and no doubles" "no alcohol after 12" we knew it must a bit doge…. Anyway we found a car park with guess what; toilets! Also this car park has a zoo/aviary that contained kangaroos, wallabies, emus, ostrich and other birds…. Cool but crazy! The next day was the tour of the Bundaberg factory. They use like 120 million litres of molasses each year and they hold like 7 million dollars worth of rum on site….. WOWZERS after a full tour and a few tastings we cooked instant noodles in the car park before our drive to Rockhampton; we didn't expect anything from Rockhampton as their population is like 6000. Rockhampton is also on the line of the tropic of Capricorn.
I can not remember what we did in Rockhampton but as Airlie Beach was a 6 hour drive I am pretty sure we set off early and tried to do the drive in one hit.
Guess what after a quick stop for ice cream we made it in one hit. GO ME :)
