It was very windy and cool when we got up. Our intention was to get up early and surprisingly that didn't happen!
After we checked out of the caravan park and prepared the bus for another dirt road we went for a walk along the beach. Even though it wasn't looking its best I found a friend.
Although the road through Coorabie was longer thankfully there was much less corrugation than yesterday and everything remained in its place. It took about 1/2 an hour to get to Nundroo through mainly farming country.
Kimbo was hankering for a fire so we stopped a couple of times in search of wood, the second time was successful. It's anything but warm only reaching 22 today and the wind is cold, with not too many sunny breaks. We had internet and phone range at Nullarbor! My how times have changed it takes a lot of the adventure out of travel now. But I could check emails as we were going along which in itself is wild.
Finally about 3.15pm we sighted the Great Australian Bight for the first time, we always get excited. We decided to pull up and go for a walk to the cliffs, it was probably a 3km round trip but the view as always was worth it. There was no room, as Kimbo suspected to have turned the bus around at the end, so a good move to leave it back on the highway.
We pulled up about 4.00pm and the wind was howling, in fact we had a small issue with the bus facing into the wind and made it impossible to get out of the door, as the handle had broken! Eventually Kimbo moved it around and by this time another bus had pulled in. In that bus were Steve & Julia Bewry ex-Broomeites. We couldn't believe it. They too have just been in the Riverland and are now heading "home" after 6 years on the road.
We had a couple of drinks with them and then came home to get the confounded fire going and eat jaffles (that were delightful). Kimbo assures me he'll fix the door tomorrow. Unfortunately the wind was bitter and made sitting outside (even me on top of the fire) uncomfortable so I went to bed and missed Steve and Julia who came over. Julia was a smart girl and went home to get warm.
The wind howled all night and we weren't even close to the cliffs.
