So, after a break in 2019, we find ourselves back in SA. Well, to be fair, we knew we were coming because we booked it months ago so there was no real surprise!
We flew Virgin from LHR and arrived in Joburg at 08.00 after a 10.5 hour flight. Luggage was quick coming off and we changed terminals to catch the Domestic flight to CPT. This was delayed slightly, probably due to the arrival of a number of VIPs. We only travel with the best! Actually, this is not true because it was a BA flight!
Again the luggage came through quickly and we just caught the golf buggy to the car hire office (Andy blames his gammy knee). Avis Preferred saves us queuing except they seemed to have lost our car (or the keys) for a while but it eventually turned up.
We drove to Franschhoek, quickly checked in to the Maison Chablis and equally quickly made our way up to Tuk Tuk - the very convenient microbrewery - where a couple of glasses were quaffed with a light lunch.
In the evening we went to Reubens a very good local restaurant where the king prawns were excellent!
Today (Wednesday) we did a bit of shopping at Pick n Pay and then visited a couple of wineries to get stocks for the holiday. This time it was Leopards Leap and our old favourite Rickety Bridge. Had lunch at the Petit Manoir, a new restaurant in the high street and then the afternoon was spent by the pool. Unfortunately (I shouldn’t really say this) it is too hot 38C or 100.4F so its not really possible to sit in the sun. We sure haven’t acclimatised to this yet but tomorrow is forecast to be more comfortable!
Tonight we return to Foliage - one of the best restaurants not just in town but in the Cape. Stay tuned!
