The rain held off for Bastille day, and we dined at the cafe in the square, fabulous food, fun company, and finally at 11 the dancing kicked off. We wandered home about midnight, quite magical in the dark.
The next day, We watched Le Bleu win a little competition called the World Cup and then the town went off, honking horns and people in the street celebrating. Fortunately no tear gas required here!
We moved on to Vizille- the itinerary said Vif, but unfortunately the accommodation there closed, so this is the very pleasant alternative. En route Ross rode the Col de Menee, which was a bit damp at the top, but the scenery is spectacular. The restaurant we are visiting is serving outstanding food, so no complaints here.
Yesterday we headed for Alpe D’huez - the cyclists from our base, the rest of us in the bus. We based ourselves in Bourg D’Oissons, meandering around and drinking coffee, tea or Perrier depending on preference, until the riders returned. Ross and Henri made it to the top in company with an international caravan of an Italian and some Colombians, surviving the enthusiasms of Dutch corner, the traffic, the heat and the thousands of other tourists and thoroughly enjoyed it all. Ross rode back to base, while the rest of us went via the ski resort to collect the cable car passes for the day Le tour comes through.
Today we hope to see the tour at Le Rossier (subject to correct spelling and extreme crowds)
