We went downstairs for breakfast which was included in the room but only until 9.30am. They had pretty much everything on offer. We had cereal and then we had a go at having a waffle as they had a waffle iron and a batter machine. You measured out batter into a cup, poured it on the iron, closed it and set it to two and a half minutes then it’s done. They even had little pots of ‘breakfast syrup’. It was delicious but not really breakfasty for me. After checking out at midday we made plans to head towards Hoover Dam to have a look there. We came first up to a car park where you can walk onto a new bridge that they have built here. The bridge was built 2005-2010 and was built after the 9/11 attacks because they were worried about terrorist attacks on the Hoover Dam. Before the new bridge all traffic crossed the Dam. We had a walk, heat already 41c. We walked up the steps and onto the bridge, once up there the wind was extremely strong. I actually had to hold onto the railing at one point. The view though was amazing from here. You could see the whole dam and the water either side, it was a lot bigger than I ever imagined. Once we’d got some pics we battled the wind to get back down to the car. We had read about the tours but were unsure whether we wanted to go on one. We decided to have a drive across the dam and see how much we could see. We drove across which was pretty impressive, there was parking for $7 but if you drove further parking was free, it was just a little further to walk. We chose this option, we parked the car and walked down to the dam. The dam actually sits on the state line between Nevada and Arizona so on each side they had a clock which read either Nevada time or Arizona time. We walked all the way acoss, went to the gift shop, mainly to enjoy some air con before enduring the heat of the sun to get back to the car. Once back we drank so much water! We decided this was great for having seen the dam, no need for a tour. We drove off after that and set off for our motel which is in Williams, only one hour from the Grand Canyon. It’s going to be quite a drive but at least we will be doing it today and not have to do the whole thing all in one go tomorrow. About an hour and a half away we stopped at a Walmart for a few things. James had been looking at computers here as we do need something better than the tablet we bought. We have all of our photographs to sort for starters and that’s before all the scary back to reality stuff that needs organising. He found one which was only £150 and would be perfect, we bought it. We walked round the shop a little more but as I went round a corner I saw a woman shopping with her huge pet snake around her neck! Crazy! We set off again for Williams which was pretty straightforward, we arrived at 7.30pm. After checking in we dumped our bags, checked that the computer was all good and then went out for something to eat. The town is really cool, there is so much old school stuff here like the cars and the shops. Somehow they have managed to keep the fast food chain restaurants out which looks so much nicer. After a wander round the gift shops we got back to the room to try and get an early night ready for tomorrow.
