We got up and had breakfast which was included and checked out for 10.00am, we then sat in the car for about an hour organising what we're doing over the next few days while we have a car. Once organised we realised we have an extra day we could use to explore this area of the country a little better. So the plan is to drive a bit north to a ghost town called Bodie. We got organised and set off, it's definitely hot again today, glad for some air con. We pulled off the highway and headed for Bodie, three miles away from it the road went from sealed nice road to unsealed bad gravel track. It was slow going, that was for pretty much everyone as we have now caught up traffic. When we eventually arrived we paid $7 each and $2 for a guide book. We parked up and had some lunch as it's got to 1.00pm. We spent a good hour and a half here looking round. The place is pretty big and has been kept quite well. Apparently this is only 5% of what was here originally when it was a mining town. Some of the houses and the school still have everything left as it was the day they left town. The town's heyday was in the 1880s and it became a state historic park in 1962. It was interresting and felt as though we were really in the wild wild west. When we'd finished looking round we got on our way and headed back south towards Mono Lake. A beautiful huge lake, we had a quick look before carrying on to June Lake scenic route. This really was scenic, passing three different lakes, we stopped for a while to have a look. We then got back on the highway to drive to a place called Independence which we're making as a last stop before going through Death Valley tomorrow. We got to Independence and found a place to stay called Ray's Den Motel. Quite a nice room, we got settled and popped out late for some bits for breakfast in the morning.
