Bula!
Fiji time is the best time, complete relaxation! Our 7 days island hopping was unbelievable, the Fijian people are so welcoming and the scenic views are unforgettable!
Our time in Fiji was, as i've said, hopping between the different islands in the Yasawa range off the west of the main land. First stop was Sunrise Lagoon Resort for 2 nights where we went on a trip to ancient caves. The caves were filled with water so we were swimming about inside and the tour guide took us into a dark (had to go under water to get into iit) adjoining cave where locals would come to contact their ancestors. In the afternoon we went snorkling at the Blue Lagoon on the opposite side of the island where we were staying, its where some movie was filmed. Next day, before we left, we went handline fishing with some local fishermen. They were really good, catching something everytime they casted out. I thought I did quite well at four fish, considering Gary only got one..haha
Next island was Korovou for 1 night, a luxury island. Two guys we met on sunrise were going as well so it was a good laugh. The place had a swimming pool, not that we needed one with the ocean on our doorstep. At night we got to learn the local Bula dance and for afters it was a game of the old classic...musical statues!
Kuata was next for 2 nights. We were told bad stories about this island but it turned out OK. This was where we did the sunrise summit walk, had to get up at 5:30am but it was totally worth it as you'll see in the photos. The next day it was our kayak trip round part of the island. It started off well, riding some waves on the way round which was good fun. On the way back me & Gary (in our 2 man kayak) thought we'd try catch some waves again. The rest of the group went wide of the waves but we thought we'd go for it. However, paddling along a wave came out of nowhere and swept us towards a big group of rocks. We thought we were going to stop in time but the rocks kept getting closer when finally we hit them, got thrown out our kayak into the rocks. Lucky for us there was no serious damage so looking back it was actually quite exciting. To help ease the pain I booked in for a massage from this Fiji lady (not as good as it sounds as Fiji ladies are not most attractive) but the table was set up on the beach so it was very relaxing!
Final destination was South Sea Island, where the whole resort is the island which only takes 5 mins max to walk around. Probably the best island for food, showers etc and we had the bonus of a free $30 bar tab each as they cancelled a boat trip we were meant to be on...happy days!
Before going back to the main land we had a day trip on the seaspray boat. This included free drink & food, so being typical drunks me & Gary took advantage of the free champagne. On the trip we stopped at an island for a visit to a local village. Here we met the village chief and took part in a Kava ceremony (kava is a local non-alcoholic drink that tastes like dirty water but makes your mouth go numb & fuzzy). After that it was off to the island were castaway was filmed where we did some snorkelling.
Sadly it was back to the main land, ready to fly to OZ. I really hope I can go back to Fiji again and would recommend it to everyone.
