Couple of weeks have gone past since I got a chance to sit down and write the blog so I won't go into too much detail this time. We went to the Tambourine Mountains just west of the Gold Coast, and did some hiking and sightseeing, and then in the evening I made us some Burgers - not as good as Tuktuk Burger though - and we watched the footy.
Next day we went shopping, and we finally brought a gopro hero(action video camera, have wanted one for some time). So going to be boring you with video's now as well.
The day after that it was time to say goodbye to David which was a shame, we had become quite the team. We went to take him to the airport and the car didn't start! First time it has ever happened so we had to rush around and get a cab sorted for him, then he dashed off to the airport running a little behind, not the rushed goodbye we had hoped for. Then we had to get the car towed to a local garage, considering we have done so many miles lately I am not surprised something went wrong with the old girl. It wasn't anything major and after a couple hours we were on the road ahead and heading just 15 minutes south to Boardbeach.
Broadbeach was a welcome relief after doing a lot of sightweeing, driving and walking it was nice to be able to just chill for a few days. The area was really nice, lots of nice café's restaurants and shops. It felt like a place where people lived rather than a place that was for the tourists, which I really liked about it, it was a lot quieter than Surfers and in the evening there was a nice buzz to the place.
We went there to chill for a few days and not do too much and that is pretty much what happened. We did a bit of looking round the shops ate in a couple of nice places and went surfing.
On Saturday we left Broadbeach and drove to Redland Bay where we caught the ferry over to Macleay Island to visit and stay with our friend Claire who we worked with at the Royal Mail. That day the weather was crappy, grey and raining. Claire gave us a tour then we cooked up some dinner and chilled. The next morning the Sun was out and we felt like we were in a completely different place. We took Claire's Kayaks out for a paddle up the Lucas Passage which is the channel running between Macleay and Lamb Island, it was so peaceful. Claire took us to a bowls club on the Island where we had a drink and watched the Sunset.
The next morning I made us all some made Pancakes for breakfast…yummy. Claires next door neighbours were so friendly towards us and lent us some fishing rods so then we went fishing. Didn't catch anything though. Claire had to go back to Victoria for work and was kind enough to let us stay in her house while she was gone in exchange we fed and walked the dogs. For the next few days we didn't do too much but chill, go fishing (finally caught a couple of tiddlers) and take the dogs for walks.
It's a really nice place, quiet, nice people, tropical surroundings, but it's not got too much to offer in the way of exciting things to do. It will be a nice rest before heading north again towards our final destination of Cairns. We have sorted some accommodation in the Sunshine Coast just north of Brisbane. We thought about stopping to see Brissy but there was nothing too much we wanted to see and got the feeling it was just another city. Most travel reviews recommended visiting the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast instead of visiting Brisbane itself, so that's the plan.
Only have Mobile Internet at the Moment so pictures and Vid's will follow next week :D
