So here we are home again and what a trip we've had with Muzz and Rose. The places we've been are amazing. Istanbul is insane, 20 million people and the contrast in cultures is incredible. We loved the place and despite what you hear about security and safety we never felt uncomfortable there. Our day trip to Anzac Cove and Chunuk Bair at Gallipoli was a very special experience and I still get the chills when I think about the half a million people who died during that disastrous campaign.
Dubrovnik is a simply stunning place, and the old town is probably one of the most spectacularly beautiful towns you can imagine. The people there were super friendly and we can now understand why Erin & T enjoyed the place so much exactly one year before us. Our drive up the Croatian coast visit to the Island of Hvar was really interesting. One the early morning car ferry from Hvar to Split we saw the most amazing sun rise. One of the real surprising little gems was Rovinj where we caught the ferry to Venice. We spent the night in this very cool ancient town. Could easily have stayed another night or 2. On to Venice where we had a turbo half day but we had a great look around and even rode a taxi boat back to the railway station.
Florence was as amazing as ever, and our hotel (where Erin & T stayed last year) was probably the best of our trip. This time we at last got to the Academia Museum to see the Statue of David...amazing!
Then to our special place Cortona, where we just enjoyed the atmosphere in this amazing little town. In the piazza we had coffee in the mornings and Vino in the evenings....not much else heads that off. During our week here we took off down to the Amalfi Coast for a night. Incredible place, the roads are hilarious and the local drivers are complete maniacs, but the scenery here is to die for. We stayed inn the town of Ravello, I think if we get the chance we will go back there one day. Pompei, well that's just mind boggling, indescribable when you consider the city was build 700 years BC. Then off to London and the World Tri Champs, shame about the weather, but had a great night out at the the Mama Mia show...awesome and we managed to squeeze a bit bit of shopping in...even a quick visit to Harrods.
A short 24 hour stop in LA and quick look around there and that's it we're home. We've crammed a fair amount into 4 weeks but the memories will last forever! Ciao and thanks for reading our blog.
