Newhaven to Dieppe
East Sussex, UK
And we are off .... we packed the car (well Paul did with his Tetris packing skills!) last night, so stress free morning getting up and leaving for the ferry.
Trixie was confused as to why we were all up so early and had her usual sulk when she saw the remaining bags, car keys and no lead in our hands. Big hugs and kisses with mum and dad and the we said au revoir and set off.
The roads were empty and made it to the ferry port in good time. Although while waiting at Newhaven to board the ferry to Dieppe I’m a little shocked at how normal everything is and how many family’s are all packed up for their holidays like normal, as if the pandemic isn’t even a thing. I know we’ve decided to leave the UK to travel France for a few months but that’s slightly different to your annual two week holiday. There were even a few bikes that looked like they were day tripping. Finding it all a little strange really.
But in all fairness we are relieved that we’ve made it to the ferry and been allowed on. With all the COVID-19 spikes that have been happening throughout Europe and the new self isolation rules around Spain we are thankful France is still open.
It may have a knock on effect to our plans with areas within France going into lock down but for now the sun is shining and our first few stops look great. Things are changing on a daily basis so fingers crossed for us.
Once driving onto the ship called the Seven Sisters we clock that everything looks pristine - assuming lots of work had been done during lockdown.
The crossing is 4 hours long so we walked up to the top deck and found our own little private sun trap and a couple of chairs to sit back and relax.
Mum transferred me some cash so we can treat ourselves to breakfast on board but this ended up going on some chips and beer lol! Thanks Mum xxxx 😘
Now onto our first campsite 🏕 Camping Reine Mathilde in Étréham for 3 nights in calvados. We’ve arrived and setting up, weather is beautiful and the site is huge. Stay tuned for more ....
Write soon, love Sam xxxx
